We had such a great time this weekend visiting the southern side of our family: The Crazy Harper Clan. My parents were so excited to have us come and get in some quality time before they totally forget about us and focus all love and attention on the new baby. Can't say I blame them! Taylor and I flew out on Friday (our bag decided to stay an extra night in Denver so it didn't arrive until Saturday evening. Ugh!). Taylor's mom and sis Carrie also arrived very late on Friday after. It was so wonderful that Stancie and Carrie were able to make the journey. My family was so happy to get to know them and I think we plied them with enough bacon to make the journey worthwhile!
Saturday was gorgeous and warm and we took full advantage of the day. First, we went trap shooting. I sat out because I figured that wasn't an appropriate activity for a pregnant lady but Carrie gave it a shot (get it?!). She did great for her first time and destroyed one of those clay pigeons and looked cute doing it which is the most important thing. Taylor and my dad had a head to head competition resulting in a tie score of 21 out of 25. Mind you, my dad has been shooting for years and this is Taylor's second time on the range. He's pretty annoying like that. Then, after some delicious BBQ at Stubby's, it was off to the races! I've only been to Oaklawn Race Track one other time because I never visit my parents when the races are on so I was excited. We made some bets, lost some bets and discussed how we almost won some bets. My brother did win a big payout on his second bet. He is also annoying like that. For dinner we had, of course, bacon sandwiches which were divine. Thanks, mom!
Sunday was baby shower day. It was such a fun party and it was so nice to have such wonderful support for so many great people. My hostesses really went all out and everybody was in the mood to spoil the baby. Not that I mind. :-) We got lots of great stuff. Luckily, my parents will be driving out in June so they will bring a lot of the loot with them!
All in all it was a fantastic vacation, just what Taylor and I needed. A little relaxing, a lot of good food, and great times with family. More pics to come soon!
