Hobbes Learns To Swim...Almost

We took Hobbes to the dog beach last weekend which is an awesome spot. It is at the river jetty so there is still water in addition to the ocean. We started in the calm water area to see if we could get Hobbes to swim. He wasn't all that interested when Taylor was trying to get him into the water but when the dog near him jumped in to chase a ball, Hobbes immediately followed. Unfortunately, Hobbes didn't quite have the concept down and he sunk like a brick. He finally surfaced and was starting to doggie paddle when Taylor came to his rescue. He did not try that move again. But he did play in the waves with some new doggie friends and seemed to enjoy himself. This will definitely be a new hang out spot. Though next time we'll remember to bring a towel! Whoops!

Arkansas Weekend!

We had such a great time this weekend visiting the southern side of our family: The Crazy Harper Clan. My parents were so excited to have us come and get in some quality time before they totally forget about us and focus all love and attention on the new baby. Can't say I blame them! Taylor and I flew out on Friday (our bag decided to stay an extra night in Denver so it didn't arrive until Saturday evening. Ugh!). Taylor's mom and sis Carrie also arrived very late on Friday after. It was so wonderful that Stancie and Carrie were able to make the journey. My family was so happy to get to know them and I think we plied them with enough bacon to make the journey worthwhile!

Saturday was gorgeous and warm and we took full advantage of the day. First, we went trap shooting. I sat out because I figured that wasn't an appropriate activity for a pregnant lady but Carrie gave it a shot (get it?!). She did great for her first time and destroyed one of those clay pigeons and looked cute doing it which is the most important thing. Taylor and my dad had a head to head competition resulting in a tie score of 21 out of 25. Mind you, my dad has been shooting for years and this is Taylor's second time on the range. He's pretty annoying like that. Then, after some delicious BBQ at Stubby's, it was off to the races! I've only been to Oaklawn Race Track one other time because I never visit my parents when the races are on so I was excited. We made some bets, lost some bets and discussed how we almost won some bets. My brother did win a big payout on his second bet. He is also annoying like that. For dinner we had, of course, bacon sandwiches which were divine. Thanks, mom!

Sunday was baby shower day. It was such a fun party and it was so nice to have such wonderful support for so many great people. My hostesses really went all out and everybody was in the mood to spoil the baby. Not that I mind. :-) We got lots of great stuff. Luckily, my parents will be driving out in June so they will bring a lot of the loot with them!

All in all it was a fantastic vacation, just what Taylor and I needed. A little relaxing, a lot of good food, and great times with family. More pics to come soon!

Tennis, anyone?

There is a pretty serious tennis tournament afoot with a collection of family and friends. It involves rankings and a challenge system and a lot of trash talking. Last Saturday, were some pretty fierce matchups: Taylor v. Jeremy, Simon v. Brian, and, most contentious of all, Leslie v. Carrie. I figured that I could challenge anyone and they would forfeit thus advancing me to the top slot. However, I underestimated Carrie's willingness to lob tennis balls near my fragile baby bump. She won. But don't I look cute doing my warm up?! Taylor was impressed by my skills!
