The Waiting Game

My bags are packed and I'm ready to go... The nursery is ready for it's little resident...

And yet there he is, still in the belly...

That's Week 39 for you!

The Foss Family Grows and Grows

Here is me at 38 weeks...
And Hobbes at 33 weeks...

No, he's not recovering from a night of hard drinking. That tile is the coldest floor in the house so he curls up there for one on his many, many naps of the day. It's a rough life.

Hobbes Attacked by Vicious Chihuahua!

Last week while walking Hobbes one morning en route to Carrie and Simon's house, Leslie and I suddenly see a jacket-wearing Chihuahua running full speed down the sidewalk towards us barking his little head off. This little guy ran from three houses down the block straight at Hobbes and stopped barking all the while one foot away from Hobbes. We thought that the dog would do the typical thing that would-be tough dogs do with Hobbes which is to bark their way towards Hobbes, think better of it once they see how big he is, and start backpedaling as soon as possible. This little Chihuahua however barked his way up to Hobbes, paused, and then nipped straight at Hobbes' nose! Hobbes pulled his head back surprised and backed up. The Chihuahua then raced around Hobbes in a circle and--once he finally made it all the way around, bless his heart--the Chihuahua bit Hobbes again on the foot. I actually saw Hobbes-fur fly off. Only at this point did Hobbes become annoyed and turn to defend himself from the rude little Chihuahua. I then push the little Chihuahua back and the owner finally showed up and picked the little guy up. The Chihuahua had to have seen this as salvation from his own poor decisions; having exhausted almost all of Hobbes' equally-large patience the Chihuahua was trying harder than any dog ever to pick a fight that he could not win. Hobbes likely would have just stepped on him and it would have been "game over." The owner explained afterwards that he had just adopted the little guy from the pound and so he had not yet learned any manners yet whatsoever. And but for our ridiculously calm and non-confrontational dog, that little Chihuahua would never have had the chance to learn those manners.

Full Term

Well I've made it to 37 weeks! Which means, Baby Boy Foss could come whenever he feels like it! We are very excited but also pretty nervous. We are rushing to get all the last minute things ready. Even though we understand that have the stuff set up doesn't actually make us ready to be parents, it sure does make us feel better! Thanks to wonderful family and friends (who will be getting actual thank you notes despite the ridiculous delay) we have so many amazing things to sleep, clothe, and entertain the little man. He is starting off pretty spoiled and with a family like his I think that trend will continue. :-)

So now that I'm undenyable pregnant I get a lot of attention. Here are the questions I'm asked every day:

When are you due? (July 2nd)

Do you know what you are having? (Yes, a boy)

Do you have names picked out? (We have a few contenders but we are going to wait to meet him before deciding.)

What are the names? (nice try!)

How are you feeling? (Pretty good. Sleeping as much as I can, walking a lot, eating well-balanced meals and lots of desserts.)

Are you excited? (Yes, and scared. Thank you for reminding me!)

And that's pretty much how it goes.

I started maternity leave last week and I am loving it! There are so many errands to run and things to do that you just can't get done if you are behind a desk from 8-6 every day. I'm trying to find a balance of being very productive and relaxing and enjoying a few moments of selfish peace before our lives are turned upside down. Hobbes and I have a lot of fun during the day. We walk in the morning and then I do work around the house or at the computer and he does some very intensive napping. He is a roaming napper. About an hour per location and then he moves on. I assume it is his way of guarding every room which is a big job so no wonder he is so knackered. Oh also he has some very important playdates. Just about every afternoon, 2 little boys from up the street come pounding on the door to ask if Hobbes can come out and play. Seriously, that's exactly what they ask and it is so adorable. So Hobbes plays soccer in their front yard and it is a lovefest between them all. I'm just lucky that I am allowed to tag along with our much more popular family member. It has been a great way to get to know the neighbors.

Got to get ready for my weekly doctor's appointment this morning. I will post pics soon of the progress, both in my belly region and in the nursery!
